Naturalist-Guided Whale Watching

Daily: December 26 to April 4, 2010

Celebrate 10 years of whale watching with aquarium naturalists and San Diego Harbor Excursion as we venture out for twice-daily cruises to locate gray whales on their roundtrip migration. New! Detect and listen to whale and dolphin sounds in real time using our state-of-the art research equipment from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Search for other marine life such as seals, sea lions, migrating birds, and more. Get a close-up look and learn about gray whale baleen, barnacles, and prey items from naturalists during the cruise. Bring warm clothing and your binoculars for a memorable whale watching experience aboard a San Diego Harbor Excursion vessel, leaving daily from San Diego Harbor.

Extended Whale Watching Expeditions
to Baja California, Mexico

For a longer and more intimate whale adventure, travel down to Baja with Andiamo Tours Mexico and Birch Aquarium to see the gray whale up-close and personal. These extended three- and five-day trips take you to the heart of gray whale birthing grounds where whales play, rest, and investigate their curious visitors before heading north to return to their Arctic feeding grounds. Enjoy an experience of a lifetime viewing gray whales and their calves in the famed Scammons Lagoon Sanctuary, also known as Ojo de Liebre. Hop aboard small boats on two separate outings for up-close encounters with these magnificent creatures in their temporary stop-over grounds. Travel the scenic desert of Baja California on this three-night, four day trip. Included are visits to the Vizcaino Desert and historic cave paintings.

Enjoy double the fun and encounter gray whales and their calves in two separate lagoons, San Ignacio Lagoon and Ojo de Liebre (Scammons Lagoon Sanctuary). These five-day excursions explore the scenic desert of Baja with visits to Ensenada, San Quintin, San Ignacio, and Guerrero Negro. Other highlights include visits to a pristine salt marsh with migratory birds, the Vizcaino Desert, and historic cave paintings.
