As the public exploration center for world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, Birch Aquarium has inspired San Diego's residents and visitors with the wonders of the ocean for more than a century. Since 1903, Scripps Institution of Oceanography has maintained an aquarium and museum dedicated to public education and enjoyment. Birch Aquarium at Scripps welcomes 370,000 visitors annually from all over the world.

The mission of Birch Aquarium is to provide ocean science education, to interpret Scripps research, and to promote ocean conservation.
