Youth Summer Internship for High School Students

As a Youth Summer Intern, you will help children and adults explore the wonders of marine science during their visit by interpreting our exhibits throughout the aquarium/museum.

Job Duties

  • Greet visitors and answer general questions
  • Present information during informal contacts
  • Staff interpretive stations
  • Handle live animals
  • Work with a diverse group of volunteers and staff in a fun environment

Requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable talking to the public
  • Punctual, reliable and flexible
  • Able to work as part of a team with instructors and other interns
  • Take initiative to recognize tasks that need to be done and do them
  • Basic knowledge of biology with an interest in marine science and/or knowledge of marine science
  • Able to lift tanks with animals and water

Required training: June 23 - 27, 1:00pm to 5:00pm
at Birch Aquarium 

Program Dates: June 30 through August 29, 2008

 

Your training will include:

  • Birch Aquarium operation and program information
  • Marine science and climate change content
  • Interpretation and education methodologies
  • Customer service skills

Work Schedule:

Shifts will be pre-assigned for two days a week, Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm.
